November | Give Thanks by Giving Back

November is here! and we only have a few volunteer opportunities this month since everyone is getting more busy with the holidays coming up. Thank you to those of you who have been so gracious to donate food and money for the Elizabeth House dinner this Friday! We have had a ton of support and are very grateful to you and your willingness to give!
The next volunteer opportunity is our shopping adventure to the Dollar Tree to buy needed items and gifts for the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry. This has always been one of my favorite ways to donate for the holidays because it's fun to shop while I am imagining the big smile that child will have when he/she receives my Christmas box. Check out the details on the calendar and join us! We also have another Project C.U.R.E. event this month as well as a Blood Drive!

October Volunteer Opportunities!!

CandleLighters Childhood Cancer Foundation: Take-a-Hike Walk

SPERO is participating in the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation Walk to raise donations and support for the foundation! We have also volunteered to help with tearing down the event. The walk itself is a fun and active way that you can be involved in raising awareness for Candlelighters and there will be a lot of cancer survivors there for you to meet and build relationships with. You are more than welcome to ask people to support you in this with donations as well. This will be an all day event so we will plan on carpooling. There is a small schedule posted at the bottom of this post.


The registration will be free of charge to you because of the Candlelighters car wash we held on Sept. 11th at which we raised about $170! Yay! Thanks to all those who helped out at the car wash! It was fun working with you all!

We are registering as team SPERO. So don't fill out the application on-line. PLEASE EMAIL US YOUR HOME ADDRESS and we will hook you up with the right application. PLEASE RSVP for this event by emailing us your address and saying you are able to come by Wednesday Sept. 22nd! Our email address is spero.volunteer@gmail.com

We are asking that you wear our team SPERO shirts if you are able to purchase one at this time. They are only $10 and look awesome!

"Take-A-Hike" Schedule (Subject to change)
5:30 am - Meet all together at Tempe Nazarene Church
5:50 am - Leave TNC for Tucson
8:00 am - Arrive in Tucson, Begin Registration
9:00 am - Walk begins
9 am to 2 pm - Walk, raffle, entertainment, fun, fellowship, food, kids zone, and volunteer to clean up at the end of event
2pm to 3pm - Leave Tucson to head back to TNC
4pm to 5pm - Arrive back in Tempe at TNC

Candlighters Childhood Cancer Foundation - CAR WASH on Sept 11th!!

HEY SPERO FRIENDS!

If you are in the mood for getting cooled off this coming weekend, join us for the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation Car Wash to raise funds for the Childhood Cancer 'Take-a-Hike' Walk in Tucson, AZ on Sept 25th!

The event date for the car wash is Saturday September 11th @ 8:45am-12:30pm or whenever the cars stop coming! It will be held at the Dairy Queen on Rural Rd and Elliot in Tempe!

All funds raised will go towards the $15 per person registration for the Walk and the rest will go towards making a donation to Candlelighters. If you would like to sign up for an item to bring, we are still looking for towels, buckets, sponges, and soap.

Thank you for your willingness to help with this fundraiser! We know this will be a fun time for all of us to get to know each other better and build strong community! 

Jessica and I will be making a couple signs for some of us to take turns holding at the sidewalks. You may make a sign as well if you feel creative!

Red Cross Blood Drive

Thank you to everyone who was willing and donated blood yesterday at the Red Cross Blood Drive! The drive was a great success with over 60 people signed up and willing to donate, with 48 successful donations! In just 30 min and one donation, 3-6 lives can be saved! To all of you who were willing to donate, THANK YOU! You are greatly appreciated by SPERO and by those whose lives you will save! 

If you have never donated before, I encourage you to try at least once! I donated for the first time yesterday and what an experience! I can honestly say that I am very glad that despite my fears and nervousness, I gave it a try! There will be many opportunities in the upcoming months to donate again or for the first time with SPERO and the Red Cross, with the next one hopefully coming up in October! Please remember this opportunity and how important it is to those in our community! You never know when it may be you who needs the blood that someone else donated to save your life. 

Thank you again for your donations! We look forward to our next blood drive with hopes of even greater success!

SPERO KickOff & Volunteer Info Night!

We are kicking off the event on Saturday August 21st from 6:30-8pm at Kiwanis Park in Tempe to play some volleyball, enjoy icecream and provide more info on how you can start volunteering in your community with SPERO.

We would love to share our mission, vision, and passion with you!

**Meet us at the sand volleyball courts near the north ballfield in the center of the park on Mill Ave between Baseline and Guadalupe.

In the spirit of community, please bring your favorite ice cream topping to share! We will provide the rest!

SPERO t-shirts will be available for purchase at $15 (they're really cool too!)
